The Cockpit
One window, four regions: a top bar, a left rail, the stage in the middle, and a console you can pull up from the bottom.

Top bar
| Element | What it does |
|---|---|
| workspace · N repos | Filters the whole cockpit to one repository. Also where you Add repository… and hide/show repos. |
| Search field | Opens the command palette (⌘K / Ctrl+K) — see below. |
| ⚠ status chip | Appears only when status.claude.com reports Claude itself degraded. Click for detail. Can be disabled in Preferences. |
| live / offline | The event-stream light, and a button: it opens System vitals (server, event stream, Claude platform, fleet). |
| Theme | Appearance picker for this device. |
| Bell | Notifications: enable them (grants browser permission), mute sound, choose per-status. |
| Console toggle | Shows/hides the bottom dock. |
| Account | Your profile, preferences, sign out. |
Left rail — three modes
Fleet. Every agent as a status-coloured row: in-app agents and observed terminal sessions
together. There is a filter box, a New agent button, and pinned agents stay on top. Right-click a
row (or use its … button) for:
- Open agent / Open diff
- Pin in sidebar / Unpin
- Delete chat for an in-app agent — its Claude transcript on disk stays — or Archive session for an observed one, which only hides it from the fleet; the session itself keeps running.
Files. A file explorer over every allowed root (per environment). Picking a file opens it in the stage in a real editor.
Diff. The project-wide Changes view: uncommitted work per repo and branch, across every
connected environment. This is where you review work done in a shared checkout, where git status
describes the tree rather than one agent.
Stage — Orchestrate
The default view: the whole fleet grouped into four buckets.
| Bucket | Statuses in it |
|---|---|
| Needs you | Needs approval, Needs input, Failed |
| Working | Starting, Working, Running tool |
| Ready for review | Ready for review |
| Idle & recent | Ended, Idle, Disconnected |
At the top is a composer: write a task once and Send to one agent or several at the same time —
that is what “orchestrate” means here. You can pick the model and permission mode for the dispatch,
pull in a saved prompt (⌘/), and Inspect an agent without leaving the board.
Review all agents ready for review (from the palette) walks you through those agents’ diffs one
after another as a queue.
Stage — Focus
One agent, up to four tabs:
| Tab | What is in it |
|---|---|
| Conversation | Drive the agent: messages, streamed answers, tool calls, approval prompts, questions, and the file-edit feed — a card per file created/modified/deleted as it happens. |
| Diff & review | The agent’s own diff, with staging and commit. Only present for an agent that owns its working tree (launched with an isolated worktree). |
| Activity | The event timeline for this agent. |
| Artifacts | HTML/Markdown documents the agent published for you to look at (up to 2 MB each). |
The composer under the conversation is where most of the day happens — models, effort, permission mode, attachments and queueing all live there. See Working with agents.
Console dock
| Tab | What it does |
|---|---|
| Terminal | Real shells (ConPTY on Windows), one tab per shell, opened in the focused agent’s repo. They survive tab-switching. You can save named launch commands per repo (npm run dev, …) and start them in a tab. |
| Ports | What is listening on this machine, polled while the tab is open, with a kill button per process. |
| Activity | The live event feed across the whole fleet. |

Status vocabulary
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Starting | Process spawning |
| Working | The agent is thinking or writing |
| Running tool | Inside a tool call (edit, bash, search…) |
| Needs approval | Waiting for you to allow or deny an action |
| Needs input | The agent asked you a question |
| Ready for review | The turn ended — not a judgement that the work is correct |
| Failed | The turn errored or the process died |
| Ended | The session finished normally |
| Idle | An in-app agent that was never used |
| Disconnected | The process is gone (or an observed session went silent past its timeout) |
An agent that launched background work keeps reporting as working after its turn ends — that is correct, the work is still running. See Working with agents.
